My Version of You
Philadelphia 2018
Co-created with two immigrant families through CCATE, Center for Culture, Art, Training and Education, these photographs are a collaboration with mothers and their daughters. Mothers have hopes and dreams for their daughters; the daughters are finding their own voice. In this time of negotiation, consciously ceding control through the project (mothers dress their daughters and direct the image, and vice versa) creates a moment of appreciation and communication.
It is simultaneously a response to the political environment which describes immigrants as the other. The focus on a familiar and universal relationship, decenters the public dialogue.
The images were exhibited at CCATE, and sales donated to the organization.
